No 17, May 2004

Dear reader,

Once again You/Com will be present at the forthcoming AES 2004 in Berlin. This year we will be focussing on wireless solutions for live reporting. As remote broadcast specialist we have some specific new “wireless” solutions to show you!

Bluetooth dongle for GSM reporter interfaces RS-110 and RS-130

The ultimate purpose of the Bluetooth dongle, developed by You/Com, is to improve the quality and reliability of live reports when using a mobile phone. Tests have shown that important advantages are to be gained when using Bluetooth technology. Noise coming from the mobile phone itself is avoided and the fact that the fragile connecting cable no longer connects the mobile phone to the GSM interface makes the connection itself more reliable. Particularly the combination of a Bluetooth dongle with an RS-110 or an RS-130 GSM reporter interface has proven to be a very comfortable and handy solution for journalists who have to report live on important current events under all circumstances.

Tieline: 15 kHz live over GSM network

Tieline, the Australian manufacturer of POTS codecs is well known for its portable reporter sets with which 15 kHz live audio connections can be established both over ISDN as well as POTS (normal analogue telephone lines). The next logical step is to have the same quality over wireless GSM networks. During AES in Berlin this 15kHz “wireless” solution will be demonstrated.

Diport 10/4: Super modern UHF reporter transmitter

The Diport 10/4 is the UHF version of the HECOM range of wireless reporter transmitters. It can be characterised as follows: simple to operate, lengthy operational battery time, lightweight and producing high audio quality. In the UHF version we have taken into account the uncertainty of the new frequency allocations as a result of the deployment of DVB-T, a process presently taking place all over Europe. Great care has therefore been taken to accommodate an extensive frequency range. Without hardware changes the frequencies can be adjusted between 540 MHz and 740 MHz or 700 MHz and 900 MHz. The fact that all Diport equipment is fully compatible with the SER10 and SER20 Sennheiser equipment allows broadcast stations to combine the Diport 10/4 with their existing infrastructure. A sure money and time saver!

What more news do we have for you?

  • CCS/MusicamUSA’s RoadStar
The RoadStar is a portable ISDN/IP codec with 4 channel stereo mixer. Of course, the most modern algorithms such as MPEG4 and AAC-LD are supported. CCS specialists are in the area to inform you about their extensive range of codecs
  • XTS – MPEG audio to DVB convertor
The XTS is a convertor, developed together with Headroom GmbH in Berlin, which offers a number of important advantages when changing over to a DVB platform. To mention but a few: lower investment in equipment and a less costly transmission connection yet achieving the required quality. If you are planning to do anything with DVB, then please talk to one of our specialists at AES.
  • StudioSet (telephone hybrid)/Line handling- and Screening System
We offer a complete platform for the handling of telephone calls as well as 4-wire communication connections. It is ideally suited for newsrooms and on-air studios. Its flexibility and its unsurpassed quality when handling incoming mobile telephone calls are its main features. Special interfaces for connection to Mandozzi, DHD, Lawo and Klotz systems are available.
