Deutschland Funk simply loves Tieline Commanders

The national broadcaster for the 16 German federal states is Deutschland Funk. For its foreign correspondents it has in the meanwhile purchased 9 Tieline Commanders. Commanders are portable POTS codecs with optional ISDN upgrade.
The Commanders are deployed both in fixed locations of the foreign correspondents, as well as for reporting while accompanying members of parliament or politicians on their travels abroad. The decisive factor to purchase Tieline equipment was the flexibility of the telecoms connection. Live reports can be done over ISDN as well as POTS (analogue) lines at perfect 15 kHz quality. Reporters are also charmed by the fact that it is so easy to operate.

Webradio now also for PC illiterates

You/Com has signed a million euro contract for the supply of at least 10.000 stand-alone Webradios for a specific closed-user-group. This unique closed-user-group are the sick and elderly who are unable to attend their local church service on Sundays. The Webradio enables them to listen to their local church service on Sundays while it is taking place or if so desired even at a later stage. The Webradio is based on internet technology, but works without a PC. It is the world's first stand alone unit which can be operated from the armchair by remote control and can also be remotely managed over the telephone network. A 230 V power supply and telephone connection are required to be able to operate the Webradio. An Ethernet port is available to connect a cable modem, ADSL or WiFi.
First deliveries will take place in September of this year.

Encrypted Secure Audio TX

Occasionally it is essential that the transmission of audio between two locations is protected against unwanted monitoring or eavesdropping.
MDO UK, supplier of the renowned AudioTX software codec, now offers a software solution for live audio transmission over ISDN or IP networks with which audio is encrypted using the standard AES encryption method. Details can be found on www.secure.audiotx.com.

Portable transmitters

For a number of years You/Com has been responsible for the distribution of the Jotron ReporterRadio. Recently we have extended our portfolio of reporter transmitters with the Hecom Diport series. Call us if you require either analogue or digital systems for VHF as well as the UHF frequency band. Jotron supplies equipment with superior digital audio quality
(20 kHz stereo). Hecom's Diport is analogue, but has an excellent price/performance. The Diport 10/3 is compatible with existing receivers (e.g. SER20).

News from CCS/MusicamUSA

  • The new IP/ISDN codec called NetStar won the "Cool Stuff Award" during NAB. It is worth having a closer look at the capabilities and special design of this "Star".
  • New on display at IBC is another "Star", the RoadStar. This full feature portable 4 channel stereo codec is ideal for field applications. It is the NetStar's opposite and suitable for IP and ISDN transmission. All popular coding algorithms are supported including AAC and AAC Low Delay. And once again a design that will steal your heart.
  • In recent comparative tests by German public radio station, MDR, PrimaLT proved to be the most stable and easiest to operate codec on the market.

More than 100 audio channels in one DVB Transport Stream? Yes, MXTS!

You/Com's family of standalone MPEG Audio to DVB convertors has been extended. The existing XTS is used to insert audio programmes to DVB networks (terrestrial, satellite and CATV). During IBC You/Com will launch the MXTS, which is a multiple channel convertor that can handle from 10 up to more than 100 audio programmes simultaneously and multiplex them into a single DVB Transport Stream. In this way only one ASI slot of the already present DVB multiplexer is used. A unique feature of the MXTS is that it accepts MPEG audio signals from remote locations over digital leased lines and converts them into a single transport stream. The low processing delay, easy management and compact physical dimensions of the MXTS meet the requirements of critical customers worldwide.

StudioSet - an allround unit

The You/Com StudioSet has two entirely different applications:

  • As telephone hybrid for news and current affairs programmes. In this case the StudioSet, our professional hybrid is used in combination with modern (digital) matrixes and mixers. There are a few good references with LAWO, DHD, Mandozzi and Klotz systems and quite a few under construction. The interaction between these systems, the handling of lines and the management of these hybrids has been optimized in close co-operation with the manufacturers of these systems.
  • Or as intercom system for communication between for instance the master control room and studios or OB van. Via ISDN the StudioSet offers 4-wire duplex communication lines as alternative to the (fixed) analogue 4-wire connections. The StudioSet uses a digital 4-wire connection. The result is that the connection simply sounds louder and clearer, because cross talk and noise are avoided. Besides which, you can phone in to the system with all kinds of telephones whether they be GSM, ISDN, satellite or analogue.

Then don't forget that CCS has an extensive range of codecs on offer, such as CDQ Prima, Prima LT, SuperLink, TEAM and NetStar. During IBC CCS can be found on stand no. 8.759.

GSM reporter interface with Bluetooth module

The well known and frequently used GSM reporter interfaces RS-110 and RS-130 can now be ordered with a Bluetooth module. The often fragile connection cable between the GSM interface and the mobile phone is then something of the past.

You/Com SET2! C'est tout!

All the imaginable functions that a sports reporter requires for live reports can be found in the SET2. Two switchable mic/line inputs, a separate connection for international sound, two separate adjustable headphones, built-in batteries, and compatibility with MPEG, G.722, G.711 and 4SB-ADPCM. It can be connected to ISDN, PSTN and with an optional extra module to GSM. It is a compact unit, easy to operate and light to transport. And what's more, it is pleasing to the eye. C'est tout!

What can you do with a GSM Hybrid?

GSM hybrids have been designed both for the reception of live reports as well as communication in and around OB vans. The GSM hybrids RS-250 and RS-250d are available in 19" rack versions whereas the RS-130b and RS-250w in plastic housings. All the GSM hybrids have line-in and line-out in order to connect to the audio system of the OB van. One can phone in with all possible telephones, even with a mobile phone!

Did you know that …

  • the renowned ReporterMate can also be found on the premises of the BBC and the University of Tilburg?
  • NATO's Communication and Information Department has bought the first i-Mix, a 5 input portable mixer with built-in 15kHz POTS codec including ISDN option?
  • the GSM reporter interfaces RS-110 and RS-130 are so popular that they can be found from France (Preco) to Denmark (Sinus Media) to Qatar (Aljabor Business Systems)?
  • 8 reporters of German radio station, Südwest Rundfunk, are using AudioTX software codecs on their laptops for live reports?
  • the StudioSet is still a favourite choice because of its superb quality? Recent orders came from our dealer ZEP for PiK Radio in Poland, from L1 in Holland, and from WDR, Arnold Studiotechnik and BTS Media Solutions in Germany.
  • since the Jotron ReporterRadio was IRT approved we have received orders from Hessischer Rundfunk and Südwest Rundfunk?
  • GSM hybrids RS-250d have been bought by EverTop International Technology in Hong Kong and VRT in Belgium?
  • the nifty red reporter codec, You/Com SET2, has recently been purchased by SROB, RTV-Noord Holland and Radio Oost in Holland, BCE in Luxemburg and Bayerischer Rundfunk in Germany?
  • the Dutch radio station, FunX, which focuses on the youth of minority groups is so popular that it now has a fourth transmitter? Consequently it had to extend its codec base with 3 SuperLinks.
  • the NetStar is turning out to be a real star? Omroep Fryslan and Radio8FM are proud owners of these ISDN/IP codecs.
  • we also didn't know what an ASI-interface was 2 years ago? Belgacom helped us to understand this. This resulted in our XTS, an MPEG audio to DVB convertor.
