AES 2006 in Paris

Dear reader

Of course, You/Com will be at AES in Paris and naturally we hope to meet you there as well on our stand no. 1411. We have a few new developments, which should be of interest to you and which we would like to bring to your attention.

Tieline codecs for remote broadcast, using all networks even UMTS!

Our last newsletter was all about Tieline, manufacturer of the most versatile audio codec. It contained information on the latest developments including WiFi, UMTS and EVDO, as well as success stories on live broadcasting over the GSM/CSD, GSM/HSCSD and IP networks. May we give you a tip? Remain updated on all the latest exciting developments and subscribe to Tieline’s electronic newsletter LinQ on their website: www.tieline.com

Next generation ENG flash recorder, includes file transfer (but without a PC!)

As an extension to its product portfolio of GSM reporter interfaces, You/Com will officially be launching its latest development, the PARROT. The PARROT is an ENG recorder with SD flash card. The unit is small, robust, has professional connectors for headphones and microphone and is truly very easy to operate. This recording device supports the popular MP3 format and was specifically developed for the news and sports reporter in pursuit of hot news. And that is why the PARROT is also a communication and transmission device. Merely by pressing the GO button on the PARROT, a wireless connection is made (using the integrated Bluetooth module and the reporter’s mobile phone) and the contribution is sent to the studio as a file in high quality. And all of this without a PC!
In an emergency, this very same ENG device can be used to go live on-air. In that case the PARROT acts as a digital hybrid. Pre-recorded items can be inserted when required. The enclosed brochure tells you more about this absolutely innovative solution. The best is to try out this unit yourself!

Other interesting solutions we will be showing in Paris are:

Headroom’s MXTS, the multi-program Radio-to-DVB encoder

In total up to 10 (stereo) audio channels, inserted as analogue audio or AES/EBU or as X.21 signal, can be transformed into an ASI transport stream.
One of the MXTS’s extraordinary features is that per radio program both ancillary data information (in the MPEG stream) and auxiliary data information (separate data stream with own PID) can be sent simultaneously with the relevant radio program. The MXTS also supports the new RTplus format, which is presently being implemented in modern set-top boxes at the instigation of SES ASTRA.

Solutions Radio’s Webcast receiver for closed-user-groups

This interesting solution offers senior listeners the possibility to listen to programs that are only broadcast over the Internet, without having to use a PC!
This should be of interest to (international) broadcasters whose listeners can no longer be reached over the air waves, but whose programs are now only being broadcast over the Internet
The WebRadio is already being deployed in a multitude of applications such as: church radio (your local church service can be listened to in the comfort of your home), ethnic radio (programs from your native country can be heard), a source of information for the blind and visually impaired and in-store music. In the case of in-store music PC’s or expensive satellite connections are being replaced by cheaper, maintenance free and flexible Internet connections. And all of this, still without having to use a PC!
By the way, the Webcast receiver can also be used as a back-up solution for satellite connections.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating. Come and see it with your own eyes. Visit us at AES in Paris from 20 to 23 May.
